Français : Louise-Bénédicte de Bourbon (1676-1753), Duchesse du Maine, épouse du Duc du Maine, bâtard légitimé de Louis XIV et de Madame de Montespan, tenait une cour dans son château de Sceaux, donnait des fêtes et accueillait des écrivains (notamment Voltaire), des artistes et des savants (Fontenelle, de Malézieu) .
Les seize grandes nuits de Sceaux qui se sont déroulées entre avril 1714 et mai 1715, sont les plus célèbres mais d'autres eurent lieu en 1722, de 1729 à 1733, 1748, 1750 Le château de Sceaux a été acquis par le Duc du Maine, en 1700, aux héritiers du fils de Colbert : le marquis de Seignelay.
